How do I feel about social media?: [Lj1]
When it comes to social media there are a certain set of rules that everyone is expected to follow, like it or not. Some are major and require monitorization from platform administrators, while others are more so unspoken. More recently social media platforms have begun to become more strict on their policies against cyberbullying and restricting content that might be inappropriate for specific users. Things that perpetuate the acceptance of rape, pedophilia, and racism are eliminated. There are also unspoken rules that are actually getting a lot of hate right now. Many people monitor their social speech but even more so now with cancel culture in the midst. Social media should inspire you to cultivate new crafts, gather inspiration from cultures, or even attain personal or professional exposure. If I'm being honest my behavior with social media has not really changed much over the last few years. Ive had social media since about 5th grade and I'm 22 now. Ive never been very active or very consistent. More recently I've started to use it for work but that's a totally different mindset for me, that's considered work: marketing. My main applications are Youtube, Instagram, and Snapchat while Facebook and Twitter are primarily used for work. If I could go back in time and tell myself something about social media id tell myself that it isn't real, that it's not worth it, that its all a facade, that the numbers that some use to measure self-worth are all determined by your ability to comply with the algorithm. I think social media is great, especially for self-expression however, the media is far too saturated with trollers, fake news, culture appropriate, and more. I take selfies solely because when I die I want them to have nice pictures I would approve of. I think that social media is designed to encourage comparison to make someone question their image and online presence. When you don't follow that app's criteria, they sensor you. I think about quitting often but most times I come back simply because I miss a bunch of the references among family and friends.
