WE ARE DATA [Lj2]
My father has been a software engineer for the past 20 years, over the last five, however, he has been working specifically in cyber security. I don’t think I’ve ever thought google WASN'T listening to me. I think ” we are data '' makes some excellent arguments about how subjectively shared, sold, or exposed information is. My personal use of social media has continuously been restricted simply because I don’t like people in my business. Is it possible that my father’s perception of data and data sensitivity also played a role? Absolutely. I think, knowing all that I know, and being reminded of it after reading the introduction to “we are data '' my professional usage will be monitored more closely. Because I have noticed what I search for often appears in ads and commercials. I will be more observant when using company devices. I do not believe any of these networks’ methods are ethical. Keeping tabs on somebody because they accepted the terms and conditions, as a platform administrator, knowing it wasn’t read thoroughly. All to expand profit margins and control the media, none of it seems right. The text mentions corruption, a very important notation because of how materialistic the world is. Corporations will do anything to stay ahead of their competition, including spying on consumers.

Hi,
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading your post. I find it interesting that your use of social media has always been restricted, as this is not the case with most users. I can see how your father's career would have an effect on that! I wish we all had this kind of knowledge sooner because now it's too late.
Hi Jonathan,
ReplyDeleteI think you made a great connection between your dad's job and your knowledge about the internet. I also agree with corporations always having to be ahead of their completion because this explains a lot of out interactions online being spied on or tracked. After gaining this knowledge about the internet, I have also limited my usage and have been more concerned.
Hello Johnathan! I enjoyed reading your statement due to the fact that your father is in the tech field. I also keep my social media usage/ post(s) to a minimum since I'm just a private person as well. I really think that this should be discussed on a mainstream scale so everyone can be aware of what's happening to their data.
ReplyDeleteHello Johnathan,
ReplyDeleteGoing through your post, I really enjoyed the fact that your father who works specifically in cyber security gave you a trait of security and knowing what personal information you put out on the internet is an amazing trait to have.
