One of the most interesting takeaways from the material this week was regarding RSS. After reading about the really simple syndication implementation correspondences I began to understand how they are used in everyday platforms. Keeping particular information or types of information in a specific feed so anybody who takes an interest can enjoy it. I don't think these types of clusters are a negative thing unless they are used irresponsibly. For example, if someone looks at news articles about a war in support of a particular party and the news outlets see the frequency of views on particular articles favoring certain outcomes. If that news source exasperates the feed in favor of one view without stating this, the organization can appear impartial or make viewers believe a statement that isn't true. This doesn't affect how I view social media because I already take what I see with a grain of salt. I already think the media is severely saturated with biased unsupported theories.

Hi Jonathen, I agree that if a news outlet only posts in favor of one view that could cause the spread of fake news on the internet. However, I also don't trust what I see on social media either. I prefer to do my own research before trusting one source online.
ReplyDeleteHey Jonathan, I feel like RSS is more of like a tool for the authors to control what types of content that appear on the articles and I agree that it can be used to sway the public opinions in a negative way. That's also one of the reason why I understand why you feel like the media is saturated with biased unsupported theories but not all of them are like that, some are still very authentic and reliable.
ReplyDeleteHey Jonathan, I think that news outlet should see a certain incident or event from a neutral point of view causing an unbiased form of opinion to be spread to the public media. This way it can provides a professional image that can be use as a trusted source.
